-

It w as a real show of community spirit on Sunday following a fire which broke out in a residential tower in Dubai Marina.

As hundreds of residents from the Zen Tower stood by and watched Dubai Civil Defence teams tackled the blaze that engulfed the 14-storey building during the morning hours, several restaurants and one hotel opened up their doors to help those affected by the fire.

Several hours after the fire broke out, representatives from the Ghaya Grand Hotel at Dubai Production City (ormerly called IMPZ) arrived on scene and worked handin-hand with the building management of Zen Tower to offer refuge to residents of the building.

Speaking to Khaleej Times, Olwin Desouza, general manager of the hotel, said “breakfast, dinner and a room” will be provided for all residents affected by the blaze.

At 5pm, he confirmed that 53 rooms had been occupied by residents of Zen Tower; he expected an additional “10 rooms to be opened up” to those needing stay for the night. Mighty Quinn’s in JBR also stepped in to help out, offering a main meal and drink to affected residents. Trocadero Cafe, next to Zen Tower, also opened its doors to residents.
