Lifestyle check with new Samsung TVs

- Alvin R. Cabral

dubai — Samsung Gulf Electronics on Sunday unveiled a new lineup of premium-line televisions, with new features that promise ease of use and the Korean giant’s best tech — plus an added bonus of being able to transform them into a piece of lifestyle.

“What we see here in the UAE’s TV market is that it is stable, but what we see in terms of trends is that there are segments that are growing and growing less,” Haris Munif, head of product marketing at Samsung Electronics Gulf ’s consumer electronics group, told Khaleej Times at the event in Dubai.

“The good thing is that those that are growing less are the smallersized and non-premium segments, and those that are actually growing are the premium segments.” Munif added that those in the upper tier that are gaining traction are TVs in the 65-inch-and-above segments. Couple that with the fact that these ranges are not as costly as before — thanks to innovations more available on a wider scale — and consumers are enticed to upgrade their living room centrepiece.

Samsung’s new TVs have a format used for most cinema screens and HDR movies for television. A new One Invisible Connection also serves as the single source of power and AV data to the TV, plus a new remote control handles all connected devices, such as gaming consoles.

Consumer sentiment should also be taken into consideration. At the event, Samsung said that research revealed that 70 per cent of consumers prefer their TVs wall-mounted; 80 per cent of the time, TVs are switched off. As such, the TVs also have a new ambient mode, which can display information like time or an image to make it look like a painting, and would blend to its surroundings.

“Gone are the times that people are shying away from big TVs,” Munif added.
