Dubai residents get a ‘smart abattoir’

dubai — A new smart abattoir with advanced equipment and tools has begun pilot operation in Lisaili area, the Dubai Municipali­ty has announced.

“We have started the experiment­al operation of the smart abattoir during Ramadan after the completion of the necessary resources,” said Ali Tahir Al Hammadi, head of the abattoirs section in the municipali­ty.

“The smart abattoir offers its smart services through Al Mawashi App, where livestock can be purchased without the presence of the customer at the slaughterh­ouse. The livestock will then go for slaughter, preparatio­n of the meat and then will deliver it to homes,” said Al Hammadi.

of indiscrimi­nate slaughter carried out by roaming butchers,” added Al Hammadi.

He pointed out that awareness campaigns have been launched for the members of the community through audio-visual and social media as this phenomenon poses a serious danger to the society.

During the week before Ramadan, the abattoirs had carried out more than 11,000 slaughteri­ng, which is an increase of 10 per cent than last year’s. The working hours of the abattoirs during Ramadan will be from 8am to 4pm.
