- Issac John

dubai — Emaar, the Dubai-based developer of some of the world’s iconic communities, is the only company from the Middle East and Africa region to find a place among the world’s top 100 smart corporate decision makers.

The newly rebranded Crowe, the eighth largest global accounting network, which published “The 100 Decision-Making Index and Report 2018,” said its research is the first of its kind to assess strong, effective decision-making in corporate leadership globally.

While several of the world’s top brand like Google, Microsoft, Amazon and Facebook could not find a position in the Crowe 100, the index has a wide geographic distribution, with 33 of the top 100 companies headquartered in the United States, 16 in Japan and 13 in China. Only one company from India, Tata Group, has figured in the top 100 at 77th, while Emaar has been ranked 86.

Announcing the findings, Dr Khalid Maniar, founder and managing partner of the Crowe auditing network in the region, said the research had ranked decision-making at the 100 most profitable companies globally “by using objective indicators and subjective analysis,

according to four components, growth, diversity, boldness and innovation, over a five-year period (2013 to 2017).”

Atlas Copco and Volvo Group are the world’s best corporate decisionmakers, ranked first and second, while Apple is third in the index.

“Our rebranding to Crowe from Crowe Horwath is more than a name change. We have put 35 years of our dedication to provide satisfaction to our clients and its stakeholders, we believe that this is part of what makes us different, together with our core values of caring, sharing, investing and growing,” said Dr Maniar. The rebranding has seen over 220 member firms globally adopt the name, reflecting the increasingly integrated and seamless nature of the network as well as its shared values and core purpose, said James Mathew, Group CEO UAE & Oman.

“We at Crowe, facilitate our clients to make smart decisions for growth and better control of their operations. The unique blend of global exposure and expertise of the local market makes Crowe, a thought leader in the UAE today,” said Mathew. “The name change would reflect on our brand identity and legal name in the UAE will change from Horwath Mak to Crowe Mak,” added Mathew.

“In future, when you see the Crowe brand name, you can be reassured of the first-class quality service that our people deliver on behalf of our clients,” said David Mellor, chief executive officer of Crowe Global.

Mellor said the move has assisted in promoting the network’s shared knowledge and global resources in response to changing client needs, driven by digitalisation and the borderless world of modern business.

“Under the new brand and leadership, Crowe reaffirms its determination to drive forward the profession and increase discussion of audit, tax, risk and consultancy issues at board level globally while retaining its emphasis on market-leading local expertise,” said Mellor.
