dubai — Passengers flying out of Dubai will have a hassle-free journey as they can now check in their baggage and get boarding passes at their homes, offices or hotels after Dubai-based cargo handling firm dnata announced acquisition of majority stake in baggage technology and logistics company Dubz.

Travellers, who are coming into Dubai can also leave their bags with Dubz after retrieving them from the baggage carousels which will be delivered to their homes in the emirate.

In addition, passengers will also get their baggage checked-in on the spot at the airport, and collect their boarding passes from Dubz as they can proceed straight to airport immigration, avoid queues at the airline check-in counters.

Initially, passengers of flydubai, Saudia and flynas will be available to enjoy this new service. However, the firms are currently holding negotiations with other carriers operating out of Dubai to expand the service.

However, dnata said passengers on any airline arriving at Terminals 1 and 2 at Dubai International Airport and Al-Maktoum International Airport can appoint Dubz to collect their baggage at the carousels, clear customs on their behalf and deliver the bags straight to their home or hotel. Omar Abou Faraj, CEO and co-founder of Dubz, said the new service saves time and provides peace of mind to passengers. “Our goal is to scale up the business while maintaining the agility and service standards we’ve achieved since inception.” Steve Allen, divisional senior vice-president — UAE Airport Operations, dnata, said the aim is to roll this out this new service around the world.

“Our partnership sees another convenient travel benefit for flydubai’s passengers. Home checkin is the latest addition to the flydubai offering and it demonstrates our team’s dedication to deliver a customised travel experience available to all our passengers,” said Jeyhun Efendi, senior vicepresident, commercial operations at flydubai.

A Dubz customer service representative told Khaleej Times Dh110 is the cost for one bag, Dh220 for two bags, Dh299 for the third and then additional Dh30 for each bag for flydubai passengers. This includes weighing and sealing of the baggage. For the baggage belt pick-up service, it is Dh99 for the first bag and Dh40 for every additional bag.

Dubai-based Emirates airline already offers home check-in facility to its passengers anywhere in Dubai. This home check-in service costs Dh350 for up to seven pieces of luggage. Passengers will have to shell out Dh35 for extra luggage per piece.
