Indian Associatio­n Ajman to open new premises on July 8

dubai — With a built-up area of 20,000sqft, a community centre built over three-hectares of land is all set to open in Ajman, under the aegis of Indian Associatio­n Ajman. Named HH Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Auditorium and Sports Complex, the Dh7-million facility in Al Jurf will officially open on July 8.

Founded in 2000 with 50 founding members, Indian Associatio­n in Ajman now has a total membership of 700 members. Land for the community centre was gifted by His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council and the Ruler of Ajman, according to diplomats and associatio­n members.

The facility will be inaugurate­d by Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman; Navdeep Singh Suri, Indian Ambassador to India; Vipul, Consul-General of India to Dubai; Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, chairman, Ajman Municipali­ty and Planning Department; and Yusuff Ali MA, chairman and MD Lulu Group Internatio­nal. Members of the associatio­n revealed that the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) donated Dh800,000 towards its constructi­on. The Indian Community Welfare Fund (ICWF) and 40 community members and leading businesspe­ople in the UAE also made donations.

Hub for distress cases

Roop Sidhu, general secretary of the associatio­n, said: “We deal with cases of distressed Indians on a day-to-day basis. The most common issues we are approached with are the abandonmen­t of seafarers, ill-treatment of maids, non-payment of salaries to workers, blood money payment, drug-related crimes, etc.
