Man gets 6-month prison for sharing wife’s private pictures

ajman — A 38-year-old Arab man was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment and slapped with a fine of Dh100,000 followed by deportation for violating marital privacy.

According to police investigation, the accused shared his wife’s nude pictures through social media — WhatsApp and IMO — after she questioned his illicit affair with another woman.

The accused allegedly posted his wife’s private pictures and also cursed her through text messages on the social media.

The wife testified before the Ajman Criminal Court that the husband initially threatened to post her pictures on social media if she discussed his relationship with his girlfriend and also his habit of drinking alcohol. He threatened her to accept the illicit relationship and to keep her mouth shut.

The wife later realised that he had already sent her nude pictures to his married girlfriend of the same nationality on a night he came home late and drunk. She saw him holding her phone, in which he had installed a new sim card to call his girlfriend.

When he returned her phone, she found his conversations with his girlfriend, admitting that he had sent her nude pictures of his wife. “He tried to physically assault me, while trying to take the phone. I managed to leave the house along with my children and contacted my cousin after I spent the night on the Corniche Street,” the wife said.

She handed over the phone to her cousin who tried to reach the accused at his home. The accused disappeared and failed to respond to court hearings. The court issued the verdict in absentia.
