Pakistani homemaker flooded with orders for anti-Nawaz cake
dubai – While some mourned, other celebrated in their own unique way the day the courts sentenced former prime minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, to 10 years in jail on charges of corruption.
A home-based baker in Dubai, Khadija Ammad, baked a cake and decorated it in a monochrome prison dress depicting Nawaz behind the bars and words titled ‘Gone’ just for fun.
“Though I do the baking and icing, this was my husband’s idea,” said Khadija while speaking to Khaleej Times. “I did not realise it would go viral,” she added.
The 3kg cake was baked on July 6 and was sold for Dh300. “One of my friends bought the cake and we all cut and celebrated the day,” she said.
Khadija, who said that she has no political affiliation, was swayed by her husband’s support towards Imran Khan, the frontrunner for the premiership in the upcoming polls on July 25.
“We all want change in the country and that’s why we have somehow started supporting Imran,” she said.

the idea of Nawaz behind bars cake post went viral, Khadija has been getting a number of orders for such cakes. “Most orders are coming from Pakistan though and right now I cannot complete those orders,” said Khadija who is originally from Karachi.
“But if they are from the UAE, I will surely bake,” she said.
Khadija has been in the UAE for two years and is passionate about baking since her school time.
“I come from a family that is passionate about baking — my mother and grandmother are all bakers,” said Khadija. “The rest I have learnt from YouTube,” she added.
Nawaz was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in a corruption case. The three-time PM was found guilty in the Avenfield corruption case — pertaining to the ownership of four flats in the posh Avenfield House in London, charges which were revealed in the Panama Papers scandal.
