Dhahi Khalfan seeks strict penalty against drug offenders

dubai — Lieutenant-General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chief of Police and Public Security in Dubai, called for imposing strict penalties against drug offenders and sought amendment of anti-drug laws to combat the menace. He also proposed drug addicts who were caught more than twice should not be included in the pardon.

Lt-Gen. Dhahi Khalfan stressed that the anti-narcotics law should be a deterrent and strict penalties should be imposed against smugglers, drug trafficker­s and drug abusers and anyone involved in drug related issues.

The suggestion came during a meeting of the Federal Anti-narcotic Council, which was attended by representa­tives of Dubai Police, judiciary, as well as the ministries of health, environmen­t and climate change.

The meeting was also attended by Brigadier Saeed Abdullah Al Suwaidi, director of Federal AntiNarcot­ic Department and vicepresid­ent of the Federal Anti-narcotic Council, Brigadier-General Eid Mohammed Al Thani, chairman of the Supreme National Committee for Combating Drug Traffickin­g and Dr Hamad Abdullah Al Ghafri, director-general of

The officials discussed draft articles of the anti-narcotics and psychotrop­ic substances law and reviewed some amendments, which were proposed to reduce the drug abuse and impose strict penalties.
