Man embezzles Dh155K from his boss in Dubai
dubai — A PRO has been charged at a Dubai court with embezzling Dh155,000 from his Emirati boss after forging receipts and breaching trust. The 38-year-old Egyptian PRO has been accused of embezzlement, breach of trust and forgery at the Court of First Instance.
The case dates back to December 2016. The complainant, a 60-year-old businessman, said the defendant was working for him and his duties were to finalise transactions at government departments. “In December 2016, I gave him Dh155,000 to renew the business licences of three of my firms. However, the accused went to his home country a few days later.”
The businessman found out that the employee did not renew the trading licences of his businesses at the Department of Economic Development. He did not also deposit Dh100,000 at a department in Abu Dhabi. “He sent me messages on WhatsApp that Dh100,000 was his gratuity and he was willing to return Dh40,000 on the condition I would not claim back any other amounts from him and that I’d pledge that in writing. But I turned his offer down and filed a complaint at the Bur Dubai police station,” the complainant said.
An Indonesian maid said the defendant went to her employer’s house and she handed him over a large amount of money belonging to the businessman. The technical evidence includes letters from departments denying payment or deposit of fees by the accused. The court will pronounce a verdict on August 15.
