DCC season to kick off with all age groups

-

dubai — With the soaring temperatures likely to fall in a few weeks and with outdoor activities likely to pick up, the Dubai Cricket Council is ready to get the season off to a solid start for all groups.

The League of Mammoths tournament, played by veterans, will set the ball rolling from September 14. Four teams — Jumeirah Mammoths, NAS Mammoths, Zabeel Mammoths and Commercial Bank International (CBI) will fight it out in a triple round-robin league with the top two teams contesting the final in mid-November.

Dubai Mammoths, under the aegis of the Dubai Cricket Council, will be hosting this tournament, which has grown in stature, for the 6th time. Matches will be played with the red ball and played in daylight.

Soon to follow will be the DCC 4th Silver Challenge from September 16. This league is for amateurs. It involves six teams and they will play a double round-robin with white ball and under lights.

Teams participating are Dubai Mammoths, Roaring Lions, The Strikers, Red Knights, Old School Boys and Farooq Cricket Club.

Another tournament will get underway on September 16 and it is called the DCC 2nd Grids Contracting Youth League.

Spartans, Titans, Trojans and Gladiators will battle it out in a single round-robin league over four weeks with the best two teams making the final in October end.

The title has been sponsored by Grids Contracting & Decor LLC. Each team will have the benefit of an U-19 player in the playing 11 and two in the squad as guests.

Matches will be played at the Dubai Stadium and The 7s.

The boys will be picked up purely on drafting basis after DCC had selected 250 boys for the trials during the Inter-Emirates U-16 and pruned it down to 70 for the DCC 1st Evolve Youth League in the Last Season

Such an initiative has not happened in any of the other Emirates and DCC has been successful in working towards grassroot level as it will give the youngsters a lot of benefit when they lead up to the U-19 category in the years to come and probably later it will help them to strengthen the UAE team.
