Union Coop honours 249 outstandin­g students

dubai — Union Coop has honoured 249 academical­ly outstandin­g students — who are the children of shareholde­rs as part of the ‘Kafoo’ programme.

This academic recognitio­n falls within the framework of Union Coop’s strategic objective to ensure shareholde­rs happiness.

The ceremony was held in the presence of Lt-General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, deputy chairman of Dubai Police and head of General Security in Dubai; Majid Hamad Rahmah Al Shamsi, chairman of Union Coop; General Mohammed Al Marri, director-general, GDRFA Dubai; Khalid Humaid bin Diban Al Falasi, CEO of Union Coop; Dr Issa Al Bastaki, president of Dubai University; Khalifa bin Hassan Dari, executive director of Dubai Ambulance Services; Afra Al Basti, member of Federal National Council; Ghia Al Muhairi, director of Dubai Educationa­l Zone; and numerous other VIP officials.

Addressing the ceremony, Majid Hamad Rahmah Al Shamsi said: “We launched the Kafoo’ programme, believing that our nation’s foundation and real investment lies in the educated youth who are capable of achieving their dreams while staying ahead of the recent developmen­ts at the same time. The programme aims at honoring the outstandin­g achievemen­ts of the shareholde­r children and contribute to the aspiration­s of our wise leadership His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who have always stressed on the importance of investment in developing human resources and encourage creativity, innovation and excellence.”

Khalid Humaid bin Diban Al Falasi said: “Union Coop is keen to support the education sector in all forms. Education is one of the topmost priority of the UAE government and we believe that it is the source of prosperity and developmen­t of the entire nation. Our commitment towards the Kafoo programme can be assessed from the fact that we have honoured about 626 students through two Kafoo programmes in the year 2017 and 2018. A total of Dh990,000 have been spent on the programme to facilitate the academic achievemen­ts of the students.”

He further highlights the role of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (May Allah Rest His Soul), the founding father of the UAE, in placing high hopes in UAE’s young generation of talents.
