Major Rashid bin Sandal, director of the rescue mission at the Sharjah Police, said that the man died after falling from a mountain peak into 15-metre deep valley.

The police received a call at the operations room in the Eastern Region, reporting the incident in the morning. The caller told the police that his friend had slipped off the top of the mountain and was trapped in a deep hole which was hard to reach.

The rescue team immediately rushed to the area and tried to retrieve the person, but he was found dead.

They removed the body and shifted it to a forensic laboratory for an autopsy. The police launched an investigation to find out the cause of the accident.

He stressed the preparedness of the police to respond quickly to calls received at 999, especially in cases of emergency cases.

“The police are making great efforts to decrease the response time to less than five minutes to implement the strategy of the Ministry of Interior,” he added.

He urged the tourists and visitors who climb the mountain to be well equipped and exercise caution, and not to risk going down into deep valleys or hazardous slopes.
