abu dhabi — A domestic worker helped his friends enter his employer’s home, where they stole cash and jewellery, an Abu Dhabi court has heard. The Asian man and his three colleagues are on trial at the Abu Dhabi Criminal Court of First Instance, accused of theft.

Six other men, who helped the group sell the stolen jewellery and remit the stolen money to the families of the thieves, were charged with selling stolen items and operating businesses without licences.

Court documents stated that the main defendant took his friends inside the house when his employers were away. He directed them to where they kept the jewellery and cash. The men fled after stealing the items.

As the family returned, they were shocked to find the cash and jewellery missing. They confronted the domestic help, who said he did not know anything. He claimed he had gone out for a brief period of time and that the “theft must have happened then”.

The police investigated the case and arrested the domestic worker. He reportedly confessed to committing the crime and led the police to his three accomplices.

They then led the police to the six suspects who sold the items. These six, however, told the police they did not know the items were stolen. The trial was adjourned until October 2.
