dubai — As people around the globe celebrate International Day of Peace (World Peace Day) today, residents in the UAE will also be marking the occasion by taking part in various activities and events centered on the theme “peace”.

Dubai-based NRS International and UK-based NGO Empathy Action will kick off their #PeaceDoves campaign to give wings to a message of hope, peace and reconciliation.

The project, in collaboration with women stitchers from NRS International’s factory in Pakistan, sees the production of 650 handcrafted dove toys made from upcycled off-cuts of refugee blankets and tarpaulins.

Mariam Al Hammadi, director of The Big Heart Foundation, said the day is observed to “strengthen the ideals of peace among all nations and people”.

In the Capital, Sawab Centre in Abu Dhabi launched a campaign on its social media platforms to combat extremist ideologies online and promote positive alternatives. Under the hashtag #AfterTerrorism, the two-day campaign will run in Arabic, English and French.
