Cellphone services suspended for Ashura

islamabad — Mobile phone services have been partially suspended in several cities across the country, including Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar, on Thursday as part of security measures for the Ashura Muharram. Cellular service has been suspended especially on the routes of 9th Muharram procession­s, private news channels reported.

Strict security measures have been adopted for the Muharram procession­s and Rangers and police contingent­s have been deployed near Imambargah­s across the country.

Motorcycle pillion-riding has also been banned till 10th of Muharram. The main Ashura procession in Lahore will begin from Imambargah Pando Street, Islampura, while in Karachi it will start from Nishtar Park and in Islamabad from the sector G-6-II Imambargah.

Further, the Pak-Afghan border crossing at Chaman and Pak-Iran border crossing at Taftan have been closed for two days.
