Fire breaks out at caravans in Fujairah, 225 workers rescued
fujairah — A major fire has destroyed 23 caravans at Murbeh area in Fujairah on Monday morning, according to authorities. However, no casualty has been reported and the 225 workers on the caravans were evacuated to safety.
The incident has prompted the Fujairah Civil Defence to intensify inspections and issue warnings to owners of warehouses to abide by fire safety rules.
Brig. Ali Obaid Al Tunaiji, director-general of the Fujairah Civil Defence, confirmed that no casualties have been reported as the fire fighters managed to evacuate 225 workers on time from the inferno.
The civil defence team also prevented the fire from spreading to 97 other caravans in the vicinity.
An official said the civil defence operation room received a call at around 7.35am about the fire and a team of firefighters and ambulances were sent to the site of the accident. Brig Al Tunaiji said that the site has been handed over to fire experts at Al Fujairah Police following the cooling operation to determine the cause of the fire. The accident caused severe damage to the caravans and its contents leading to huge loss. Col. Khalid Al Hamoudi, deputy director of Al Fujairah Civil Defence, said that the department will continue its awareness campaigns to educate the establishments about the importance of implementing fire safety procedures and its inspections to ensure they follow the rules.
