Indian authors to shine at Sharjah Book Fair

sharjah — An impressive lineup of Indian authors, poets, bloggers, and musicians, are all set to grace the 37th edition of the Sharjah Internatio­nal Book Fair (SIBF), which will run from October 31 till November 10 at the Expo Centre in Sharjah.

Some of the top names expected to attend the fair are Bollywood actress Nandita Das, Canadian YouTuber and the ‘Superwoman’ Lilly Singh, political leader and poetess M.K.Kanimozhi, Bollywood actress Soha Ali Khan, Karan Thapar, Shashi Tharoor, and Chetan Bhagat.

Being the third largest book festival in the world, this year’s edition is set to host over 1,000 exhibitors across 100 countries.

“As in the previous years, resonating with the depth of Indian community in the UAE, a large number of renowned personalit­ies from the field of literature, politics, arts, culture, film, music, media, and cookery from India will participat­e in various functions conducted as part of elevenday-long book fair,” explained Ravi Deecee, CEO of DC Books.

Member of Indian parliament and writer Shashi Tharoor; former member of the upper house of the Indian parliament, orator and writer M.P. Abdussamad Samadani; and author Chetan Bhagat will all speak at the fair.

Violin virtuoso and musician Dr L Subramania­m, renowned Tamil writer Perumal Murugan, Academy Award winner Resul Pookutty, renowned Malayalam writer and Vayalar Award winner U.K. Kumaran, writer and TV anchor Karan Thapar, and veteran actor Prakash Raj will also have sessions at the event.

Other authors include IndianEngl­ish writer Manu S.Pillai; Malayalam writers K.V.Mohankumar I.A.S. Santhosh Echikkaana­m, S.Hareesh, Deepa Nishanth and Francis Noronha; Malayalam film actor Manoj K.Jayan; Mappilappa­attu icon Enanholi Moosa; culinary experts Ranveer Brar, Shipra Khanna, Lathika George, and Ancy Mathew; writer and social activist Sr.Jesme; and motivation trainers Gaur Gopal Das and Manoj Vasudevan will attend various functions conducted as part of the book fair.
