Govt online initiative to reward customers

- Sherouk Zakaria

dubai — Paying your bills online in Dubai not only saves time and effort but also gives you a chance to win back the cash you paid. As part of the ‘week without service centres’ initiative that kicked off on Sunday, residents can win 100 per cent in cashback rewards, with the Department of Finance (DOF) allocating Dh1 million for the scheme.

The DOF is leading the initiative that offers 1,100 services of 40 government, semi-government and private entities only online till October 25. On day one, the usually bustling government service centres in Dubai wore a deserted look, with a few customers seen using on-site smart machines. Executives at the centres could be seen guiding customers to use apps and websites to carry out their transactions, pay bills, fines and fees.

The Dubai Municipality has provided iPads and laptops at its service centres to train customers to go online.

Khater Al Nuaimi, director of the municipality centres department, said: “It’s a week without waiting, without parking, traffic and papers. Such initiatives enable us and the customers to be more prepared for Dubai’s complete smart transformation by 2021.”
