dubai — Emma Brain, a freelance broadcaster based in Dubai, the Dubai Fitness Challenge is a chance to do something that she hasn’t done before.

Emma is taking part in the challenge for the second time this year.

“I did it last year as well and it is a fantastic initiative,” said Emma who has always been a fitness freak.

She thinks that there is no reason why anyone should not take part in the challenge. “It’s just 30 minutes a day and with this, we can kickstart something that we can carry on,” she said.

Emma said that the challenge gives her a chance to explore much. “There are a number of classes that are offered free of cost or on discount prices that give people a chance to try out some new stuff

which they may intimidated by or couldn’t afford earlier,” she said.

She also said that the challenge gave people a chance to set themselves fitness goals. “And fitness is not only about exercising, but also eating better.

“This challenge is much needed in the UAE because we have high incidences of obesity and diabetes,” she said, adding that Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, is a role model.

Emma, originally from the UK, also said that the challenge was a good opportunity for kids. “It’s good to get them started off early so that they can understand the importance of staying healthy in the future.”

As a target, Emma wants to push herself further. “I have always been a fitness freak but being a Dubai resident means that eventually you gain the Dubai stone, so I make sure that I make the time for myself even if it is for 30 minutes,” she said.

This year, Emma wants to try out Yoga classes. “Am a bit lacking in flexibility and want to catch up on that,” she said.

She already has tried out the rotating climbing wall. “It’s a bit difficult but I’ll do it again,” she said.

Emma has also met Sheikh Hamdan during a Spartan Race during the previous fitness challenge.
