Sharjah top AGL standings as Al Wasl down Fujairah; Al Jazira held by Dibba

dubai — Caio Canedo Correa netted a hat trick on Thursday as Al Wasl earned a 5-3 win over Fujairah at Zabeel Stadium, but Sharjah continued to top the Arabian Gulf League standings after a 2-1 win over Al Ain at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium on Wednesday night.

At the Fujairah Stadium, Driss Fettouhi scored a late header as Dibba snatched a thrilling 3-3 draw with Al Jazira.

Al Wasl opened the scoring on the 15-minute mark. Caio nodded the ball into the direction of Fabio De Lima who headed the ball into the net to put his side 1-0 up.

Fujairah suffered a huge blow when they were reduced to 10 men in the 28th minute after Mohamed Benyettou was red-carded.

Two minutes before the break, Caio chested down a cross from the left and found the back of the net with a left-footed shot.

Just after the restart, Al Wasl added their third goal through Caio. With 25 minutes to go, Khalid Abdullah pulled one back for Fujairah.

after heading Fernando Gabriel’s corner into the back of the net, but Al Wasl extended their lead only four minutes later. Fabio fired a freekick from outside of the box into the upper corner of the net to make it 4-1.

With two minutes to go, Caio completed his hat trick after heading in Salem Al Azizi’s cross. Fujairah, however, continued to fight as Omar Kossoko made it 5-3 in the fourth minute of injury time.

Following the win, the Cheetahs moved up to eighth place with 10 points.

In the Dibba-Al Jazira match, Ali Mabkhout opened the scoring for Al Jazira in the ninth minute.

Around the half-hour mark, Darwish Mohamed levelled things up for the hosts. Al Jazira restored their lead less than two minutes later, again through Mabkhout.

Four minutes before the halftime whistle, Yaseen Al Bakhit advanced up the right flank and sent an accurate low cross towards Joma Masoud, who finished the ball from a close range, making it 2-2 ahead of halftime.

Once again, the Pride of Abu Dhabi took the lead in the 61st minute through Mubarak.

In the dying moments of the game, Fettouhi secured a valuable draw for the hosts.

After the draw, Dibba remain at the bottom of the league table.

On Wednesday night, Sharjah managed to break the deadlock in the 24th minute when Welliton Soares scored. Just after the onehour mark the Brazilian converted from the spot to double the King’s lead.

Al Ain fought back and reduced the deficit through Berg in the 67th minute. Al Ain scored the equaliser in the dying minutes of the game but the goal was disallowed for offside as Sharjah earned a 2-1 victory.
