Vriitya shines for Farooq Club
dubai — Dubai Mammoths had two good outings while Farooq Cricket Club won one and lost one in the double round-robin DCC 4th Silver Challenge being played at the Sevens ground in Dubai.
In both matches Mammoths were chasing and their batsmen rose to the occasion. Against Red Knights they managed to keep them to 142 and later with the help of Jawed Siddique’s (39) and man of the match Lucky Abbas’ (29) they won in 24.1 overs.
Prolific batsman Vriitya Aravind suffered a similar fate. While his 90 failed to take Farooq home against Dubai Mammoths, his 63 against Strikers earned him the man of the match award as Farooq won handsomely by 75 runs.
Run machine Vriitya was in sublime form against Mammoths stroking 90 from 70 balls which included a six and eight fours.
Qais Farooq (31), Aryan Lakra (28) and Fahad Hashmi’s two sixes during his seven-ball 16 boosted Farooq to 182. Mammoths were 81 for 5 at one stage. But man of the match Anoop Nair (65 from 45 balls, 3x6, 3x4) and Fardan Khalid (43 not out from 31 balls, 3x3) guided Mammoths home in 23.3 overs.
Vriitya’s 63, however, didn’t go to waste against Strikers and with Kai Smith (52) they gave Farooq a healthy total of 202. Later Aryan Lakra (3-30) and Siddhanth Agarwal (2-8) reduced Strikers to 127 for 9.
