dubai — If you have an eye for the quirky and unique, and innovation is your thing, then get set for the ultimate design event.

Kicking off today, the Dubai Design Week is back with a bang. Aiming to surpass last year’s visitor numbers, which reached 60,000, the week-long event will run from November 12-17.

With a jam-packed agenda comprising over 230 events, the Dubai Design District (d3) will host design-focused lectures, exhibitions, workshops, pop-ups, launches, installations, and student innovations, among others.

Noted as a must-see event for design enthusiasts across the city, the event, now in its fourth edition, will further mark Dubai as the design capital of the Middle East.

Speaking to Khaleej Times earlier, Rue Kothari, fair director of Downtown Design, said one didn’t have to be “design-minded to enjoy the event”.

“We will have pop-up retail, workshops for children and families including a Lego workshop and a Making Space studio. It’s just an engaging event focused on new design, but it doesn’t require industryspecific knowledge,” Kothari said. This year, d3’s presence will be stronger than ever with a showcase of the final chapter of the ‘UAE Design Stories’ exhibition, which celebrates Emirati culture through various design disciplines.

A series of workshops on topics ranging from architecture to movies to sketching will be hosted by d3 partners. Student innovation will also be on show as one of the standout exhibits of the event.

As many as 150 projects from university teams around the globe vie for a cash prize and investment to take their projects forward.
