Dubai Po­lice form re­gion’s 1st all-women res­cue team

dubai — The Dubai Po­lice have formed the re­gion’s first all­women marine res­cue team. The po­lice said the team would pro­vide se­cu­rity at events or­gan­ised at or near Dubai beaches and coasts.

The team con­sists of 11 Emi­rati women who un­der­went three months of train­ing. Colonel Saeed Al Mad­hani, act­ing direc­tor of the port po­lice sta­tion, said the po­lice­women would re­spond to emer­gen­cies and secure events.

A devel­op­ment plan for­mu­lated for them would see them take on su­per­vi­sory roles in the fu­ture.

Cap­tain Ateeqa Al Dha­heri, mem­ber of the women’s po­lice coun­cil, said 30 women were nom­i­nated for the pro­gramme. Of these, 11 se­lected members were trained in swim­ming, marine safety, first aid, boat driv­ing, marine pa­trol pro­ce­dures, use of tetra de­vices and sea cy­cling.

The Dubai Po­lice res­cue team of 11 Emi­rati women is tasked with se­cur­ing the coasts es­pe­cially dur­ing events.
