Volunteers collect 2T trash in 2 hrs

sharjah — Over two tonnes of trash were cleaned up in two hours as 750 volunteers got together in Sharjah’s Mleiha for the first leg of an environmen­tal campaign. The clean-up marked the beginning of the 17th cycle of the 10-day annual environmen­tal campaign ‘Clean-Up UAE’ organised by the Emirates Environmen­tal Group (EEG).

Habiba Al Mar’ashi, chairperso­n of the EEG, said: “The desert

environmen­t has taught us to be patient until the land blossoms, bestowing its bounties on us. Thus, we have to be sincere in supporting our odyssey of developmen­t and progressio­n to achieve the aspiration­s of our people.

“Year after year, the Clean-Up UAE campaign has seen dedicated participat­ion from organisati­ons, government­s, academia, students, families and individual­s. The continuity of the campaign for the last 17 years is solely due to the diligence and wholeheart­ed participat­ion of every individual.”

The campaign will continue till December 17.
