Tamil writer Prabhanjan passes away

puducherry — Tamil writer and Sahitya Akademi Award winner Prabhanjan died here on Friday. He was 83. Born as S. Vaidyaling­am, Prabhanjan was suffering from cancer.

He began his career as a Tamil teacher in Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu. His historical novel

was awarded the prestigiou­s Sahitya Akademi Award in 1995.

DMK president M.K. Stalin in his condolence message said in the death of Prabhanjan, Tamil literary world has suffered a great loss. He said Prabhanjan was friendly towards the Dravidian movement.

In his condolence message, PMK Founder S. Ramadoss said Prabhanjan stamped his mark in the Tamil literary world with his unique style.

Ramadoss said Prabhanjan made important contributi­ons to the country and also formulated plans for Makkal TV, a Tamil satellite channel.
