Shahbaz elected PAC chairman unopposed
islamabad — Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif was unanimously elected the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman on Friday.
Special Secretary Qamar Sohail Lodhi conducted the election.
Shahbaz’s name for the position of PAC chief was suggested by PML-N lawmaker Sheikh Rohail Asghar. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf ’s Amir Dogar and Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed seconded the name of Shahbaz for the slot.
Shahbaz, who is also the PML-N President, thanked members of the parliament for reposing their trust in him and promised that he will “ensure the transparency in the accountability process”.
He stressed the need for improving the process of accountability.
Shahbaz also congratulated PPP leader Khursheed Shah, who was the former chairman of the committee, for running PAC effectively. Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Aamir Dogar, congratulated Shahbaz on behalf of the government.
Akhtar Mengal also congratulated Shahbaz on being elected as the PAC chairman.
PTI’s Shibli Faraz expressed the hope that Shahbaz would come up to the expectations of the people. He said eradication of corruption was top priority of the government.
Raja Pervaz Ashraf said this was a good tradition of nominating opposition leader for the slot of the PAC chief. He expressed the hope that under the leadership of Shahbaz Sharif PAC will exhibit exemplary performance. —
