Shahbaz elected PAC chairman unopposed

islamabad — Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shahbaz Sharif was unanimousl­y elected the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman on Friday.

Special Secretary Qamar Sohail Lodhi conducted the election.

Shahbaz’s name for the position of PAC chief was suggested by PML-N lawmaker Sheikh Rohail Asghar. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf ’s Amir Dogar and Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed seconded the name of Shahbaz for the slot.

Shahbaz, who is also the PML-N President, thanked members of the parliament for reposing their trust in him and promised that he will “ensure the transparen­cy in the accountabi­lity process”.

He stressed the need for improving the process of accountabi­lity.

Shahbaz also congratula­ted PPP leader Khursheed Shah, who was the former chairman of the committee, for running PAC effectivel­y. Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Aamir Dogar, congratula­ted Shahbaz on behalf of the government.

Akhtar Mengal also congratula­ted Shahbaz on being elected as the PAC chairman.

PTI’s Shibli Faraz expressed the hope that Shahbaz would come up to the expectatio­ns of the people. He said eradicatio­n of corruption was top priority of the government.

Raja Pervaz Ashraf said this was a good tradition of nominating opposition leader for the slot of the PAC chief. He expressed the hope that under the leadership of Shahbaz Sharif PAC will exhibit exemplary performanc­e. —
