Abu Dhabi reaches out to families in need
The Department of Community Development in Abu Dhabi has begun conducting field surveys across various regions of the emirate, with the aim of reaching out to low-income families and improve their living standards.
The families targeted by the Abu Dhabi social support programme are classified as middle class. It aims to promote social support through multipillar development accelerators called ‘Ghadan 21’ (Arabic word for tomorrow) as well as volunteering and innovation.
According to the programme, sustaining prosperous living standards is based on social solidarity and organisational partnerships.
Aside from providing financial support, empowering families and enabling them to achieve stability are also key in improving their lives.
This can be done by supporting individuals in running family businesses, which will guarantee their productivity and strengthen the concept of citizenship in the community. The confidential survey began in Al Dhafra, followed by the Al Ain region on January 20, and Abu Dhabi City on February 24. After the completion of relevant assessments and their approval, financial support will be provided and rehabilitation programmes will be implemented, in line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030. The programme is part of the efforts of the UAE government to implement a series of specialist initiatives.
The Ghadan 21 accelerators will be provided Dh50 billion over the next three years, including Dh20 billion in 2019 starting from January.
