New Dh35M natural gas plant begins operation in Sharjah
sharjah — A grand natural gas plant established by the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (Sewa) in Al Rahmaniya area with a cost of Dh35 million started operation on Tuesday.
Al Rahmaniya natural gas plant has started delivering the services to many building and residential units in Sharjah. The plant has been established under the directives of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
The plant will serve a number of areas such as Al Siyouh, Al Waha, Al Zahia and central region cities including Al Dhaid and Khor Fakkan.
Dr Rashid Al Leem, chairman of Sewa, said that the new plant is operating in accordance with the best technical specifications and has taken into account the highest international safety standards.
The number of natural gas pumping and distribution plants in Sharjah has increased to five. The other plants are located in Al Majaz, Fifth Industrial roundabout, Kalba and Khor Fakkan.
Dr Al Leem said that the number of consumers who use natural gas services in the emirate has exceeded 300,000. Sewa is now working to expand the natural gas network in new areas. He pointed that the authority is keen to encourage the public to use natural gas in place of unsafe LPG cylinders.
The gas network in the city has been extended to more than 2,500km in addition to the establishment of gas extensions in Khor Fakkan with the length of 90km, and in Kalba on a stretch of 120km.
Amna bin Haddah, director of the natural gas distribution department, said Sewa has completed a number of projects to expand the natural gas network to various regions of Sharjah.
The e-transformation project for the reception and implementation of natural gas connection procedures for homes has been completed to facilitate connection procedures and adopt the best systems that would save time and effort to the subscribers.
