abu dhabi — Two witnesses in the case of a woman — who is accused of butchering her lover in Al Ain and cooking his flesh to hide the criminal evidence — said they smelled a foul odour coming from the defendant’s flat just days before the alleged murder was discovered

The 37-year-old Moroccan woman is on trial at the Al Ain Criminal Court of First Instance, facing a murder charge.

She had allegedly stabbed her lover of the same nationality, then sawed his corpse into three pieces in November 2017.

During the latest hearing, the court heard from the prosecution witnesses, two Filipinos, who were residing within the accused’s neighbourhood.

One of the women said she didn’t know the defendant as the latter was a new tenant in the building, but she attested to the nasty smell that appeared to be coming from the Moroccan’s place.

The second Filipina, a roommate of the first witness, also said she was bothered by the stink that filled their area and reported it to the watchman.

The watchman told them that their neighbour said she had bought some bad fish that she had thrown in the garbage bin, the witness said. The Filipinos, however, clarified in court that the smell was not of a fish.

The defendant’s lawyer, Khalid bin Jumhoor Al Ahbabi, earlier told the court that his client — a married woman whose children live with their father in Morocco — had attacked the man in self-defence and that she did not have any plan to kill him.
