abu dhabi — An Abu Dhabi resident, who was convicted of stabbing his lover to death after the woman allegedly provoked him over his manhood, will be jailed for seven years.

The Abu Dhabi Court of Cassation has upheld earlier rulings by lower courts that handed down the sentence to the Arab man.

Court documents stated that the man, who was allegedly high on drugs, had attacked his girlfriend in her flat after an argument.

Prosecutors said the man, who had a knife with him, had stabbed the woman in the neck and other parts of her body. The man was also charged with consuming and possessing hashish.

Officers said he lured the woman into going together in her house with the intention of killing her. The man was charged with premeditated murder.

Both the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance and the Appeals Court had sentenced the man to seven years in jail after he was found guilty of murder. He was, however, cleared of possessing hashish. The man was also ordered to pay blood money.

The man challenged the sentence in Abu Dhabi’s top court, denying intentionally killing his girlfriend. He argued that the woman had provoked him which made him angry. The defendant said this resulted in an argument and a fight, adding that he didn’t mean to kill her.

The man also said he had a mental illness and was using psychotropic drugs that were prescribed to him by a doctor. However, a medical report said the man was normal and didn’t suffer from any mental illnesses.

The Cassation court judge rejected the man’s appeal after hearing from all parties.

He (the defendant) lured the woman into going together in her house with the intention of killing her.”
