dubai — The Ministry of Health and Prevention (Mohap) recently launched a campaign that encourages communities to adopt a healthy lifestyle and exercise — even for just a few minutes a day.

As part of its awareness drive with a slogan ‘Dream Small ... It Adds Up’, the Mohap organised the shortest marathon at the emirate’s Zaabeel Park, attended by Dr Amin Hussain Al Amiri, assistant undersecretary for the public health policy and licensing sector.

The event, titled ‘The 1-Kilometere Marathon’, sends a message that adding even just a few minutes of physical activity into one’s daily routine can prevent a host of illnesses, said Dr Al Amiri.

Based on the recommendations of the World Health Organisation, adults should get active at an average of 30 minutes daily.

Through the event at the park, the ministry wanted to emphasise that exercise is not necessarily limited to the gym but can be part of everyday life, said Dr Fadila Mohammed Sharif, director of health education and promotion.

Medical tests for diabetes and hypertension as well as body mass index evaluation were also run at the event, in addition to entertainment for children.

Dr Hussain Abdul Rahman Rand, assistant undersecretary for health clinics and centres at the Mohap, also shared how the ministry has been putting campaigns and activities together as part of its strategy to meet the health indicators of National Agenda 2021.

He said that the Mohap will continue to educate the public about healthy habits and shed light on myths and wrongful practices that should be avoided.
