New Pak consul-general welcomed by ministry
dubai — The new consul-general of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, Ahmed Amjad Ali, was welcomed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MoFAIC) on Tuesday.
Abdulrahman Ghanem Almutaiwee, director of the office of the MoFAIC, congratulated him, as they discussed the bilateral relations of the UAE and Pakistan.
Ali is a former naval officer who had served on various ships. Born in 1974, he holds a master’s degree in international law, maritime disputes and international boundaries and joined the foreign service of Pakistan in 1996.
He has held several posts in Pakistani missions abroad, including Kuwait (1999-2002), Frankfurt (2005-2009), Bangkok (20092014) and Bradford (2016-2019).
He also served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Headquarters in Islamabad as protocol officer (1998-1999), section officer (2002-2005) and director (20142015 and 2016).
Ali has replaced Syed Javed Hassan. In an outgoing ceremony held in the UK, he said Pakistan will hold one of its biggest trade exhibitions in Expo 2020. “I have been assigned to take charge of this and we are hoping to boost the country’s trade at this Expo,” he said.
More than 1.6 million Pakistani expatriates live in the UAE and they are a major source of foreign remittance.
