I love coming back to Dubai, says ex-champion Wozniacki
dubai — Caroline Wozniacki rarely puts a foot wrong in Dubai.
The 2011 Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships winner ended up with the runner-up trophy in 2017.
The Danish superstar has also reached the Dubai semifinals four times, making her one of most successful WTA players in the history of this tournament.
The former world number one revealed the secret to her Dubai success at the draw for women’s week on Saturday.
“I am happy to be back in Dubai. I have so many great memories here, winning the title. I play well on these courts here. It’s always a place I love coming back to,” the world number 10 told reporters on Saturday.
“It (the Dubai record) does give me a lot of confidence. The courts here really suit my game. And, you know, the fans always support me here. There are a lot of Danish people here. So I always enjoy playing in Dubai.”
Wozniacki will face wild card Samantha Stosur in the first round in Dubai.
“I am just here, trying to do my best. I will just do my best and see how far I can go,” she said.
The 28-year-old player endured a seven-year wait for her first Grand Slam title after achieving the world number one ranking in October, 2010.
Now Wozniacki admits that life has changed after her epic win over Simona Halep in the 2018 Australian Open final. “It’s such an incredible feeling. Before the Grand Slam, I have achieved quite a lot in tennis. But to get the Grand Slam was definitely something very special,” he said.
“You know whatever happens from now on, I know that I have got a Grand Slam. It was such a proud moment for me.”
