dubai — The UAE will make their second appearance at the Under-19 cricket World Cup next year after a remarkable performance in the ICC Asia Division 1 qualifiers.

The UAE colts polished off Oman at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Thursday, to keep their unbeaten run intact.

Led by Aryan Lakra, the UAE won by a comprehensive 10 wickets in their final fixture to make it five wins on the bounce.

The UAE lads finished the sixteam qualifiers on top of the table with 10 points to punch their ticket for the tournament to be held in South Africa in January and February next year.

The only other occasion when the UAE had featured in the Under-19 World Cup was in the 2014 edition, which was held at home.

The UAE had begun the qualifiers by defeating hosts Malaysia by five wickets and then went to beat Nepal by one run by the Duckworth-Lewis Method.

They then went on to beat Kuwait and Singapore by seven and nine wickets, respectively.

dubai — Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Member Zayed Abbas was proud to see the UAE team qualify for the Under-19 Cricket World Cup, saying they are the future of the National team.

Abbas also said that this will motivate them to strive even harder and pave the way for an even brighter future for the UAE in world cricket.

The UAE made the cut for the World Cup to be held in South Africa after turning it on in style in the ICC Asia Division 1 qualifiers.

The UAE colts were a tad too strong for Oman at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Thursday, winning by a comprehensive 10 wickets, to make it five wins from five.

The UAE lads finished the six-team qualifiers on top of the table with 10 points and booked their ticket to South Africa for the 13th edition of the tournament to be held in January and February next year.

The first time that the UAE had featured in the Under-19 World Cup was in the 2014 edition which was held at home.

“Our junior team has been doing extremely well, be it ACC (Asian Cricket Council) or ICC (International Cricket Council) events. It is a great achievement and we are proud of them,” Abbas told the Khaleej Times on Thursday.

“It is the result of all the hard work put in by the players, the coaches, as well as the ECB with regard to the strategies. This will actually motivate the players as they look ahead. It promises a bright future for them as they grow and try and make the transition to the National team,” he added.

Abbas said that qualifying for the World Cup twice in five years shows the high standards that they have set. “We dream of playing with top teams in international cricket and we have to start somewhere. In terms of two appearances in five years, we have checked all the boxes of the ICC with regard to the high performance standards. All of this has come from hard work and this is just the start,” said Abbas.

He said that they won’t be resting on the laurels and strive even harder and try to raise the bar. “Definitely, there is room for improvement and there is lot more we can do. We have to put in more effort,” Abbas said.
