New Sharjah intersection to curb bottlenecks
SHARJAH — The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has developed a major road intersection to ensure smooth traffic flow and curb congestion.
Dr Mohsin Balwan, director of road maintenance, SRTA, said the development of the Ali Bin Ahmad Al Abduli Intersection has been completed on time.
“The intersection lies between Samnan and Al Shahba areas on one side and Industrial Areas 5 & 6 on the other side.”
The old concrete road barriers have been removed, Dr Balwan explained. “New pavement blocks and tiles have been installed, apart from 800 metres of new metal barriers.” Painting of the intersection and roads around it has also been carried out, Dr Balwan underlined. “Up to 14 pedestrian crossings have been added in all directions.”
The traffic lights have been repositioned and new traffic signs have been installed “to ensure the highest safety levels for all road users as per the latest international standards”.
In February this year, the
SRTA developed the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Sultan Bu Alian road intersection at a cost of Dh1.2 million ahead of schedule. “We have also developed the Sheikh Khalid Bin Sultan Al Qasimi intersection in April this year at a cost of Dh1 million.”
The SRTA is working on a comprehensive ambitious plan to develop the entire road network in the emirate, besides carrying out regular maintenance, he pointed out.
