Indian actions threaten peace in region: Alvi
ISLAMABAD — President Dr Arif Alvi on Thursday gave the world community a wake-up call to avert the looming threat to international peace from New Delhi’s actions in Indian-administered Kashmir, warned India to come to senses and not cause an irreversible situation.
Addressing a joint sitting of parliament here, the president also reiterated Pakistan’s support to the people of the Indian-administered Kashmir and made it clear that the genocide of innocent Kashmiris would not be tolerated.
“I want to clarify to the international community that any negligence in this regard will pose a serious threat to international peace… Even now, we warn India to come to its senses and not to cause an irreversible situation,” the president said in his second constitutionally mandated address to the Majlis-eShura since assuming the office in September last year.
Jointly chaired by National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser and Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, the joint session was attended by Prime Minister Imran Khan, members of the both National Assembly and Senate. Provincial chief ministers
Pakistan is with its Kashmiri brethren. We will continue to extend moral support; we were, we are and will always be with the Kashmiris Arif Alvi Pakistan President
and leaders from different political parties besides naval and air chiefs also watched the proceedings from the galleries.
Alvi said Indian actions had seriously endangered South Asia’s peace and stability, adding the entire Pakistani nation would continue their moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmir people until they got their right to self-determination.
“We will never leave them alone. We have always been with them, we are with them, and we will always remain with them,” the president remarked.
He said a Hindu extremist mindset has taken over India and the world would have to confront these fascist policies.
He said the religious extremism of RSS was fast reshaping the face of India and had made the lives of minorities unsafe.
The president said the discussion on Kashmir at a special session of the UN Security Council was “a big diplomatic triumph” for Pakistan, especially when India had made all-out efforts to prevent it.
The discussion at the UN is a recognition that Kashmir is as an internationally recognised dispute and not an internal matter of India, for which the international community has to play its legitimate role, the president added.
“India has stepped up ceasefire violations at the Line of Control. India has always sponsored terrorism on Pakistani soil; Kulbhushan Jadhav is an example. He has confessed that he is a serving navy officer and was sent to ignite tensions in Balochistan,” he said.
Lauding the reaction from the OIC, the president spoke high of the joint statement from the UN Human Rights Council which demanded India to immediately remove all restraints in Jammu and Kashmir. —
