Masdar City to have new cleantech pilot project

abu dhabi — Swedish solar energy company Azelio has partnered with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Masdar, and Khalifa University of Science and Technology to run a pilot project evaluating new technology in power storage.

An agreement to formalise the partnershi­p was signed by Jonas Eklind, chief executive officer of Azelio; Abdulla Balalaa, director of Real Estate Developmen­t and Design at Masdar; and Dr Steve Griffiths, senior vice-president for Research and Developmen­t at Khalifa University of Science and Technology; at the World Energy Congress, which concluded on Wednesday.

The project aims to test and demonstrat­e Azelio’s Stirling engine systems and integrated thermal energy storage, TES, solution for renewable energy projects that use photovolta­ic solar, concentrat­ed solar power, CSP, and wind energy, or projects that provide off-grid solutions, with the purpose of determinin­g if the technology can be included in current and future renewable energy projects.

E-Fusion Initiative

More than 20 French and 12 Emirati companies attended the first E-Fusion Initiative to discuss potential partnershi­ps and new business opportunit­ies. The side event took place in Abu Dhabi on the sidelines of the 24th World Energy Congress (WEC), currently running in Abu Dhabi.

The E-Fusion Initiative aims at bringing together the French nuclear supply chain and Emirati companies around projects for the UAE Peaceful Nuclear Energy Programe. The initiative is co-headed by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporatio­n and the French Nuclear Industry Associatio­n. Mohamed Al Hammadi, CEO, ENEC welcomed the French participan­ts led by Ludovic Pouille, Ambassador of France to the UAE, Xavier Ursat, Chairman of the GIFEN as well as Jean-Bernard Levy, Chairman and CEO at EDF.
