dubai — The Dubai Police rescued an Emirati woman and an Asian man who were left stranded and about to drown after their cars got stuck in the flooded roads caused by the rainwater.

In the first incident, the Command and Control Room at Dubai Police received a report on Saturday at 4am about a woman stuck in her vehicle amid the rainwater in the Festival City Tunnel. “Our patrols rushed to the scene and found the woman in panic. The officers tried to open the doors but to no avail. They then resorted to taking her out of the window to the car’s rooftop,” said Brigadier Saeed Hamad bin Sulaiman Al Malik, director of Al Rashidiya Police Station.

“As the water level in the tunnel was rising rapidly, our police officers stayed with the woman until the specialised rescue team arrived and took her out of the tunnel to safety,” Brig Al Malik added.

In another incident, Brig Al Malik said the police officers were patrolling the Dubai International City area when they spotted a motorist in his vehicle stuck in the middle of a flooded road. “Our patrol officers approached the stranded car and helped the Asian man get out of the window,” he pointed out.

The woman and the man thanked the Dubai Police for saving their lives with their speedy response.

Brig Al Malik urged the public to remain calm and report emergencies immediately to 999, while providing accurate information for quick action. He also urged motorists to be cautious while driving during the inclement weather and avoid water ponds to prevent dangerous situations.
