fujairah — A young Emirati man, who got stranded on a mountain in Masafi for two days following the recent torrential rains, was rescued by the Fujairah Police.

After being alerted about the missing 17-year-old, the police scoured the entire mountainous area, and finally managed to locate him, according to sources. “He was administered first aid and safely returned home.”

Muhammad Salem, father of the young man, said the Air Wing unit of the Fujairah Police did a “marvellous job”. “They never gave up and kept searching every nook and corner until they found my son, who went missing since Saturday afternoon.

“He was not carrying his mobile phone and that made the search and rescue operation all the more challenging.” He was reunited with the family on Monday morning, he said. “We had earlier posted his photo on social media seeking help from the public to find him.”

The Fujairah Police have urged all mountain trekkers to be extra cautious, particularly in the remote zones.

“It is also important and even life-saving to carry all the means of communications to alert the police in case of an emergency.”

Going trekking alone poses a grave risk, they underlined.

“Trekkers need to keep their family informed about their whereabouts and locations. The public is highly advised to avoid going to the mountains or valleys during showers.”
