Wanted: Knights to spread cancer awareness
sharjah — Calling all horse riders: The Pink Caravan Ride (PCR) needs you. The annual breast cancer awareness initiative — which travels around the UAE to offer free health screenings — is calling on horse riders and volunteers to join its 10th ride, set to run at the end of February.
Riders who wish to volunteer should be over 16 years of age, with sufficient equestrian skills and experience.
With the tour around the emirates covering approximately 15km every day for 10 days, riders will be required to clear technical and proficiency tests to ensure their fitness to participate. Male and female riders interested in participating in the 10th edition of the PCR need to register online by February 15.
A registration fee of Dh500 will be charged, covering all assessments, as well as the Pink Caravan tabards and other branded livery.
Reem BinKaram, chairperson of the PCR higher steering committee, said: “Since its inception 10 years ago, the Pink Caravan Ride has seen thriving participation of talented riders with a strong spirit of volunteerism and civic duty.
“These volunteers will continue to play a pivotal in driving the campaign’s efforts and activities designed to raise breast cancer awareness in the UAE.”
Last year, 670 female and male horse riders of different nationalities travelled 1,800km alongside PCR’s clinics, which offered free checks to more than 64,000 men and women, BinKaram said.
“Seventy-five positive cases were detected. These numbers represent the PCR’s commitment to widen its outreach.”
