The gloves are on as boxers get ready to rumble in Dubai
dubai — After flooring Dubai with two rounds, the gloves are on for the third instalment of the Rotunda Rumble.
And the card features nine challenging bouts that sure packs a punch. To be held at The Rotunda at Caesars Palace Bluewaters on Friday evening, Rotunda Rumble III will witness Dubai-based Nigerian Aliu Bamidele Lasisi put his WBC International super-flyweight title on the line against the Dominican Republic’s Norbelto Jimenez.
And while that is the headline bout of the night, the card also has some exciting bouts that includes UAE talent Sultan Al Nuaimi.
The Emirati made a successful pro debut with a first round TKO victory against Indonesian Charles Latuperissa in just 112 seconds, in Rotunda Rumble II last November.
Having tasted success, the 26-year-old from Ajman is itching for more. Al Nuaimi, who had made his debut along with another Emirati boxer Fahad Al Bloushi, takes on another Indonesian Sulis Barrera in the Super-flyweight bout over four rounds.
His bout will begin proceedings on the night that also sees two Indian boxers — Faizan Anwar and Lalrinsanga Tlau in the fray.
Anwar has been something of a prodigious talent with the 18-yearold from Kolkata winning both his pro bouts so far. He beat Anucha Noithong by TKO in Thailand last December and saw off Jun Paderna of the Philippines at the Round 10 Boxing Club last month.
Anwar goes up against Ghana’s Gideon Agbosu in a super-welterweight to be contested over six rounds. Tlau, meanwhile, comes in on the back of two victories against Digari Mahesh and G Mallikharjuna in New Delhi and Bangalore respectively. The 20-yearold from the north-eastern state of Mizoram, fights Tanzania’s Haidari Mchanjo in a featherweight bout across six rounds.
Also in action are former world champion TJ Doheny, Irishmen Steve Collins Jr. and Dubai-based Rohan Date and Aussie star Cesar Mateo Tapia.
“I want it to be more challenging. I want to gain more experience from each round. But if I see an opening, I have to go for it,” Al Nuaimi said after weighing in 112.8lbs on Thursday morning.
Lasisi, who trains at Round 10 Boxing Club, hopes to have a shot at the world title if he wins his bout against Jimenez.
“I’m hoping to get a world title shot if I get to win this fight. I think this fight will be a good challenge for me and hopefully I’ll get a chance to fight for a world title soon,” said Lasisi, who weighed in at 114.6lbs.
