While he is best known for his exploits in the malevolent world of boxing, Amir Khan is busy garnering a burgeoning reputation as an arch philanthropist.

Khan’s intrinsic kind-heartedness has been to the fore during the coronavirus crisis, with the Briton providing thousands of food bags to needy people in the UK and Pakistan.

Through his Amir Khan Foundation, the British-Pakistani boxer has also delivered face masks, hand sanitisers and drinks to hospital staff in his hometown of Bolton.

Furthermore, the former world champion has even offered the National Health Service (NHS) use of his 60,000-square-foot building in Bolton should a surge in Covid-19 patients cause a shortage of hospital beds.

Khan is not shy about promoting his altruistic deeds on social media, and explained his rampant self-publicity thus in an exclusive interview with Khaleej Times: “I want people to be inspired by it and do the same. It’s not hard to do it and (other highprofile sportspeople) can do it.”

“In Pakistan, it’s a lot different there with a lot of poverty and no way of getting money from anywhere,” the 2004 Olympic silver medallist added. “I’ve sent over 10,000 bags of food over there. In Pakistan, there are a lot of rural villages and you can hardly get cars there and there are a lot of houses.

“I’ve got my team to deliver to those type of areas, deep into the villages where people need our help and support.”
