Exchange house is not giving my salary

-

I am a Bangladeshi national, and in a miserable condition right now.

My office transferred my salary through my WPS account with the UAE exchange on March 15. Since then I am going to the exchange house every day to collect my salary, but they are refusing to pay, citing technical error every time I visit. I have sent multiple emails and complaints, and also called their call centre several times but no one has offered me any solution.

I am a poor man. My company had cancelled my visa long back and I am undergoing a difficult time. I cannot survive anymore without money. I have had to borrow money to pay for my accommodation and food. I am also not keeping well, and now I am surviving on free food offered by charitable restaurants.

Through this newspaper, I wish to reach out to the concerned authorities that might help me get my money from the exchange house at the earliest. —Ziauddin Bablu Idris Ali, Dubai

Don’t delete messages from your bank

December last year I’d received a promotion message from a local bank offering a 10 per cent cashback on dining from December 1 to January 30 period, up to a maximum of Dh300.

I had applied for the offer by sending a message to the bank, and used the card accordingly as I dined at various restaurants. Normally the cash back is credited after 60 days at the end of the promotion. However, this time the money wasn’t credited to my account. It has been 75 days. So, I called up the call centre to enquire, and to my surprise they asked me to show the SMS to confirm that I’d registered for the offer.

Now I don’t have that message; I had deleted all messages to save some storage space in my phone. I’ve lost my cashback, and learnt a lesson: to carefully vet all messages from banks and don’t rush to delete them. —Kailash Sajnani,
