abu dhabi — People of determination and the elderly will be given priority at the slaughterhouses in Abu Dhabi as abattoirs prepare for the Eid Al Adha rush, according to the Abu Dhabi Municipality.

They will be served while waiting in their cars after putting in their sacrificial requests, an official has said.

Earlier this week, the municipality announced that more than 25,000 sacrificial animals are expected to be slaughtered at Abu Dhabi abattoirs during Eid Al Adha.

Dr Saeed Qarwash Al Rumaithi, director of the Public Health Department at the municipality, said all municipal abattoirs are well prepared for the big rush expected during the festive days.

Veterinarians will be present in the slaughterhouses round-the-clock to monitor the sacrifices before and after the slaughter. The municipality said it has taken several measures at all abattoirs, including adding more workers to ensure veterinary inspection of all animals to be slaughtered.

The public abattoirs have slaughtered and prepared 279,494 animals including cows, goats, sheep and camels from January to June.

Khalfan Al Muhairbi, head of the slaughterhouses department, said people can request for a sacrificial animal through the ‘my sacrifice’ app, the ‘sacrifices of the island’ app or through the Red Crescent Authority (halal) so their animals can be purchased, slaughtered and delivered to their homes.

The public has been told to avail of the smart services as a precautionary measure to combat the spread of Covid-19. “It is good that people avail of these smart services so that slaughtered animals can be delivered to their home to prevent the rush at the abattoirs,” said Al Muhairbi. —
