ajman — The Ajman Municipality has placed collection boxes across the emirate to dispose of electronic waste such as phones, computers, neglected home appliances among others. The initiative will continue until August 10.
E-waste collection bins have been placed at City Centre Ajman, Fishermen’s Association, Nesto Centre – Al Raqeeb, Ajman organic fertiliser factory and the Environmental Management Building, to name a few.
“To reduce environmental risks and provide a sustainable environment, it is vital to discard ewaste using best practices and also ensuring data protection,” said Khaled Moeen Al Hosani, executive director of the Public Health and Environment Sector.

on e-waste were distributed among residents and messages were shared on the municipality’s social media handles. It is also sending text messages to citizens and residents in the emirate to inform them about the location of the containers.
“E-waste poses a great danger to the environment if not dispersed properly. This initiative’s goals include introducing the public to
the concept of e-waste, its environmental negative impacts and how to recycle used appliances,” said Al Hosani.
“Improper disposal of e-waste may lead to the release of harmful substances in the environment. As per a recent global report, the total e-waste recorded in 2019 is 53.6 million metric tonnes — phones, computers, neglected home appliances, among other devices. The study predicted the amount to double by 2030,” he added.
