— Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari on Thursday informed the National Assembly that despite objections of the Pakistan Tehreeke-Insaf and Pakistan Peoples Party, the previous government of Pakistan Muslim LeagueNawaz accepted the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav case.

Replying to the points raised by PML-N leader Khawaja Asif, she said: “There was no reason to accept the jurisdiction of the ICJ by the then PML-N government despite PPP and PTI objections.”

The minister was of the view that if one country refused to accept the jurisdiction then as per the law the ICJ could not hear the case.

Mazari claimed that the PMLN government nominated a low grade employee to defend the case. “We also objected to hiring of lawyers for the case,” she added. —
