Khalifa pardons 515 prisoners ahead of Eid

abu dhabi — The President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has ordered the release of 515 prisoners on the occasion of Eid Al Adha.

The pardoned prisoners had been sentenced to jail terms for a variety of offences. Sheikh Khalifa also pledged to settle the financial obligation­s of the released prisoners.

The President’s pardon comes within the context of the UAE’s humanitari­an initiative­s based on values of forgivenes­s and tolerance and gives the released prisoners a chance to change for the better by starting a new life and engage in positive participat­ion in a manner that benefits their families and communitie­s.

The annual pardon also comes as part of Sheikh Khalifa’s keenness to enhance family cohesion, bring about happiness to mothers and children and give the pardoned prisoners a chance to reconsider their future and return to the righteous path that ensures a successful social and profession­al life.

Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, UAE Attorney-General, has emphasised that the order of Sheikh Khalifa to release 515 prisoners is a generous gesture on the occasion of Eid Al Adha. The pardon of the President aims to provide prisoners with an opportunit­y to start a new life and bring joy and happiness to their families.

Al Shamsi added that the gesture also gives the released prisoners a chance to change for the better by starting a new life and engaging in positive participat­ion in a manner that benefits their families and communitie­s.

Ajman Ruler orders release of 62 inmates

His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the

Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, ordered the release of 62 inmates of correction­al and penal facilities in Ajman on the occasion of the blessed Eid Al Adha.

They demonstrat­ed good conduct and behaviour during their sentence period and met the conditions of amnesty. The Ruler wished them a valuable return to the society and public life after they spent their sentences.

Major-General Sheikh Sultan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Commander-in-Chief of Ajman Police, thanked Sheikh Humaid for his order. —
