Ayaz Sadiq statement beyond apology: Minister

islamabad — Minister for Informatio­n and Broadcasti­ng Senator Shibli Faraz on Friday said that law would take its own course against former National Assembly speaker and PMLN leader Ayaz Sadiq as it was an unforgivab­le crime to weaken the state.

In a tweet, he said that Ayaz Sadiq and his associates should be punished, adding that apology was not enough for what Ayaz Sadiq said.

The minister was referring to Sadiq’s statement in which the latter suggested that the PTI government had released Indian pilot Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman in capitulati­on, fearing an imminent attack from India.

Meanwhile, Ayaz Sadiq said that his statement was being “misquoted and misreporte­d”. In a video message Sadiq said that Indian media reports were “totally contrary” to what he actually said in parliament.

In a related developmen­t, a private citizen in Lahore requested the police to register a treason case against the former National Assembly speaker over his controvers­ial remarks.

The applicatio­n maintained that Ayaz Sadiq was speaking in favour of the Indian army on a TV programme aired on October 29 at 7pm, said in a report. —
