Shahbaz, Hamza to be indicted on Nov 11
LAHORE — An accountability court on Monday summoned the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Shahbaz Sharif, his son Hamza Shahbaz and other accused for indictment in money laundering and assets beyond means case on November 11.
Jail authorities produced Shahbaz, Hamza and others on expiry of their remand.
Defence counsel Amjad Pervaiz complained that the opposition leaders in the National Assembly and the provincial assembly respectively were brought to the court in armoured vehicles ignoring their health issues. Shahbaz also requested the court for provision of physiotherapist.
Meanwhile, the court dismissed an application filed by Shahbaz’s wife Begum Nusrat for permanent exemption from personal appearance in the case and summoned her on the next date of hearing. Earlier, the court had reserved verdict on the application after hearing arguments from the parties.
The NAB had filed a reference against Shahbaz’s family before the accountability court in the money laundering and assets beyond means case.
Shahbaz Sharif, Hamza Shahbaz, Salman Shahbaz, Nusrat Shahbaz, Rabia Imran, Javeria Ali, Nisar Ahmad Ali, Ahmad Khan, Syed Muhammad Tahir Naqvi, Qasim Qayyum, Rashid, Masroor Anwar, Muhammad Usman, Fazal Dad, Muhammad Shoaib Qamar and Haroon Yousaf Zai have been named accused in the reference. According to the reference, the whole family committed massive money laundering of Rs7 billion. —
